King Parents Rock!

Breezeway benches are in!

Almost 2 years ago, a group of King parents led by Tomas O’Grady and Enrich LA volunteered their time and sweat to build benches for our students socializing and hanging out in the breezeway during breaks or after school. The group was waiting for the breezeway gates and locks to be installed before moving the benches in. Last Thursday (Jan 27th), current and former King parents and driving forces behind our school’s beautification, Renae Plant, Livinio Stuyck, Louise Leach and Juan Longfellow came to school to install the benches, which were immediately put to good use by our Kingsters!

Thank you Tomas O’Grady, Renae Plant, Livinio Stuyck, Louise Leach, Juan Longfellow, and all the King parents who participated in the welcome area project and made this huge improvement possible!

Thank you for all those who made it to Back to School Night! It was a pleasure meeting all of you. One of the reasons we love working at TS King Middle School is the awesome and supportive parents we have every year. After meeting all of you…I am sure our “awesome” streak will continue. Looking forward to a great year and see you at “FAMily” Potluck Night – Mr. Laguna and Ms. Yang

ROW01

River of Wings flock of birds has landed on T.S. King’s garden!

River of Wings (ROW) is a community based, temporary public art installation conceived by King parent, production designer and artist Marcelle Gravel, and produced by LaMachineArt with support from Black Rock Arts Foundation. The installation took flight on September 13th, 2014 as part of the Frogtown Art Walk on the Los Angeles River. A flock of 60 bird inspired kinetic mobile sculptures were hung along the river bank. Each one personalized and re-imagined by schools, community groups, and local artists.

Be sure to take a look when you next visit the campus!

King’s Lion is now up and roaring over Fountain Avenue!

2016 is off to a roaring start at King with the long anticipated installation of our spectacular lion head on Fountain Avenue, what a labor of love! Thanks to mastermind designer, Oscar Varela/Atwater Art Company for bringing this vision to life. The laser cut lion with gold powder coat finish stands 8ft tall and weighs in at less than 150lbs. All welded together by “master Yoda” Mr Noel Strachman/Noel Welding Industries in Chatsworth. Watch this space for more exciting updates as the final planned campus beautification projects are completed this school year.

King out tags the Taggers!

Over the weekend of the 6th and 7th, King was vandalized by some coward taggers who painted over more than 25 walls.  But because our King Community is so united, parents and students alike came out on a moments notice @ 6:45 pm, Sunday night, and painted over all the filthy words and crude, non-sensical, ignorant markings by the taggers.  King Middle School is a force to be reckoned with and we’re proud of our school.

Power to the People! Power Washing…that is.

Amazing is the only word to describe the parent and teacher volunteers who have been power washing the asphalt of gum for the past 3 weeks….56 hours and counting.  Look at the difference!  We’re going until every last piece of gum is gone.  Our kids deserve a clean school, right?  Yay, power to the people.  :-))

Tomas O’Grady….King dad, starter of this pressure washing program and Director of EnrichLA. We are King parents and we love our kids.

Visit our Facebook page and see all the pictures.  We have a wonderful community at King!
