6th grade ESM – Learning about sustainability (Sept 2017)

The sixth grade classes visited the Hyperion Treatment Plant and Education Center this past week.  The Hyperion Treatment Plant and Education Center, in addition to illustrating how wastewater is recycled, extolls the virtues of watershed protection and all things related to sustainability.  In preparation for the trip, the students became honorary epidemiologists and worked in collaborative groups using the same clues and maps that John Snow would have used to solve the cause of the 1854 Cholera Epidemic in London.  At the treatment plant in the fragrant processing section, students had high praise for John Snow’s contributions to the modern urban sewer system. Afterwards, students enjoyed fresh air during their beach picnic.
