On Wednesday 2/17, parents, students, faculty and staff gathered out in front of King at 7:20am to support this cause.  Although there are still some needs to be met, our focus has been on all things great that have been happening at King. And there are lots to celebrate! Here’s a start:

King’s Lion is now up and roaring over Fountain Avenue!

2016 is off to a roaring start at King with the long anticipated installation of our spectacular lion head on Fountain Avenue, what a labor of love! Thanks to mastermind designer, Oscar Varela/Atwater Art Company for bringing this vision to life. The laser cut lion with gold powder coat finish stands 8ft tall and weighs in at less than 150lbs. All welded together by “master Yoda” Mr Noel Strachman/Noel Welding Industries in Chatsworth. Watch this space for more exciting updates as the final planned campus beautification projects are completed this school year.

New Mural | Cache Chickens

One more element added to our ongoing campus beautification. Graffiti legend and former King student Cache (aka Mauricio) returned to school today with his signature chickens! Cache a 1993 King graduate has spent the past 25 years pursuing his passion and perfecting his art all around the city. Take a drive by his mural gift to King on Sunset Drive.

In addition to the tremendous chicken mural he’s also kindly donated a signed art piece for our upcoming online silent auction; more details will be revealed later this week. Friends of King are ecstatic with the new addition to our gorgeous campus, we hope you are too. THANKS Cache! cachickenart.com

Five Fund Drive Facts

STEP_UP_BANNER

We are at 23% participation, let’s aim for 50%!

FACT ONE:

We have 1,943 students at King this year and FOK is being asked to provide an average of $165 per student this year; approximately $17 per student per month!

That’s $321,000 this year alone!

FACT TWO:

There would be NO/NONE/ZERO/NADA Field Trips without FOK funding, YES even the overnight ones!

FACT THREE:

Each year FOK is asked to cover everything else that LAUSD does not. That list is growing annually, see FACT ONE.

FACT FOUR:

Last year FOK was able to Renovate the Library, Paint the Campus, Girls/Boys Gyms, Auditorium, Bathrooms, Basketball Boards and Create a “Giving Tree”.

FACT FIVE:

We need your contributions to do ONE through FOUR

THANKS to all the families who have already participated. It’s not too late to make a difference, please DONATE online or in the GREEN ENVELOPE by October 12th to qualify for the Giving Tree.
