T.S. King Flag Football Team Brings Trophy Home – Oct. 2017

Huge Congratulations to our King Lions 6th Grade flag football team!! First place victory in the East District Regional Finals, and now heading to All-District City Championships!! Thank You to our Beyond the Bell coaches, and all the great Lion athletes participating in after school sports!




Curators Club Opening Reception, Nov. 9th 2017

The Curators invite all friends and families of King Middle School to attend the opening reception of the dual-themed art showDecades and Darkness in the art gallery, room 317, on Thursday, November 9, from 3:15- 3:45. In addition to art from all grade levels and all magnets, there will be music, food, and prizes! Come and support our student artists!


West Side Story 2017 – A tour de force!!!

Artfully directed through the Jaxx Theatricals After School program, our King students were simply dazzling in their performance of this most memorable musical and greatest love story! Our Jets and Sharks and two young idealistic lovers conveyed such vitality and meaning in their heart-wrenching struggle for survival, you were sure to chuckle at their wit and shed tears at the dramatic denouement. Bravo!!!


Track meet at Fairfax HS – 6/4/16

Boys and girls did a great job on Saturday at the Fairfax high school track meet. Brought to you by LACER after school program. They brought home some medals.

High School Musical @ KING MS, April 1st & 2nd, 2016

The Jaxx Theatricals after-school program is proud to present T.S. King Middle School very own first production of High School Musical. Celebrate the ten year anniversary of Disney’s smash hit movie, High School Musical.
Join the jocks, brainiacs, thespians, and skater dudes at East High in this song and dance extravaganza. High School Musical is fun for the whole family. Infectious, danceable songs like We’re All in this Togther, Get’cha Head in the Game, and Bop to the Top among many others are sure to engage audiences!

For the new year, gift your student with the opportunity to develop a new passion or skill!

L.A.C.E.R. PLUS provides opportunities to learn about creative, practical, and fun topics beyond the classroom. We are excited to offer these exciting courses for your students afterschool.
Daily supervision and activities are offered in the LACER PLUS ZONE and more specialized classes and workshops are offered throughout the week in MARTIAL ARTSCOMPUTER CODINGGUITARSPANISH and various FILMMAKING COURSES (Silent Film, Claymation, etc.). Students can participate in all the classes or register for just one. See a description of the classes below.

LACER Plus Class Descriptions – Winter/Spring 2016

LACER Plus Zone will be held directly after school. A snack and additional enrichment opportunities will be provided.  For most students, the homework after school assistance will not be enough to complete their homework and they may need additional time and help at home. While our staff work to motivate and organize students, all students are expected to be self-starters, to bring their homework and work alone or in small groups to get started and get assistance.
NOTE: LACER Plus students are not held to grant requirements. They do not have an hourly minimum per day and do not have a daily requirement. Parents can send their student on any day, for as long or as little as they need.
MONTHLY PACKAGE: $250 flat rate per month (Payment is required monthly, prior to the 1st of every month)
Dismissal Times: Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri – 2:54pm; Tuesday – 1:24pm; Minimum Days – 12:30pm

Kallpachay’s engaging Spanish class open to all levels features a rich curriculum of conversational words and phrases continuing where Term One left off (midway through the workbook.) If your child missed Term One they will be able to purchase the study guide to practice during the break (using the workbook and/or digital download). The review of Term One material will be integrated throughout the new series. 90% of the instructional time will be in Spanish. Our activities make memorization a natural process by providing opportunities for reading, writing, speaking and listening within the context of games, puzzles, problem solving, and other active learning challenges. Workbook Title: Spanish in Ten Minutes a Day by Kershul, Bilingual Books Publishing. Our teachers are native speakers and experienced teachers of Spanish as a second language. COST: $695 (1 hour session), 01/20/16 – 06/01/16

Come and learn how to play the guitar! This small group guitar course will focus on chords, technique, music vocabulary, and reading melodic notation. Students will also learn basic hand positions and timing while they engage with their peers in musicianship. As they develop their musical ear, they will learn a variety of genres including pop, classical, funk, and R & B from their professional musician Jerry Morales. All levels of experience are welcome – beginning students will get the chance to learn the basics and students who have previously been a part of the course will be challenged with advanced techniques and chords.
COST: $175 (once a week for one hour, guitar and supplies provided.)
Session 1: 1/19- 3/9
Session 2: 4/5-5/24

Martial Arts Club will explore the world of fitness, martial arts, and self-defense. Led by instructor Kevin Kuwuhara, students will practice in a fun and educational environment. The instructor will set both team goals and individual goals for students to track relative improvement. The class will operate on the nationally recognized Brazilian Jiu Jitsu youth belt system.
The class will take place 5 days a week from Monday-Friday after school.
COST: $175 per session. Students are highly recommended to bring in athletic clothing, mouth-guards, and other protective merchandise (more information to come).
Session 1: 1/19/16 to 2/19/16
Session 2: 2/22/16-3/18/16
Session 3: 3/29/16 to 4/29/16
Session 4: 5/2/16 to 6/3/16

2 week course
Students will deconstruct silent films, collaborate to develop a story, use digital cameras, camera angles, learn acting and simple editing techniques to create their very own Silent Films. The workshop will culminate with a premiere of the films where friends and family are invited to walk the red carpet and enjoy the students’ amazing films! This course will be led by Director’s Cut, an award-winning program that engages students in purposeful, experiential, hands on learning opportunities through their film-focused workshops.
The class will take place for an hour and a half after bell dismissal.
COST: $225. All materials will be provided.
Dates: 2/1, 2/2, 2/3, 2/4, 2/5, 2/8, 2/9, 2/10, 2/11, 2/12 (film festival)

2 week course
Students will develop story concepts and storyboards, use stop motion cameras, computer software and simple mathematical equations and calculations (15 frames = 1 second of movie) to transfer their concept from paper (storyboard) to a meaningful stop motion animation short. The workshop will culminate with a premiere of the films where friends and family are invited to walk the red carpet and enjoy the students’ amazing films!
The class will take place for an hour and a half after bell dismissal.
COST: $225. All materials will be provided.
Dates: 2/29, 3/1, 3/2, 3/3, 3/4, 3/7, 3/8, 3/9, 3/10, 3/11 (film festival)

Led by the organization Kids Can Code, this workshop will introduce the idea of a programming language and what it means to tell a computer what to do. They will cover basic interaction with the Python console using statements to manipulate numbers and text. Your student will have the opportunity to work on Turtles – creating our own graphics and introducing loops and functions. They will even create some games and animations throughout the course. Students will learn not just the code, but the “why” behind the coding, setting a strong foundation for future growth in the field.
The class will take place for an hour and a half after bell dismissal.
COST: $185. All materials provided.
Dates: 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 2/25, 3/3, 3/10, 3/17

Best of Broadway WICKED EDITION, musical theater revue performed by King students. Singing, dancing, acting taught by professional musical theatre staff culminating in performance at the King Auditorium.

Week of May 11. Rehearsals will be staggered to accommodate the kids Temescal trip schedule.
May 15 and 16.
PLEASE NOTE:  Tech week coincides with the Arts & Tech Magnet 3 day  6th grade field trip to Temescal Canyon.  Jaxx will stagger the casting and the rehearsals to work with the kids on the days they are at school.  Friday 16th could be an optional performance for kids returning on Friday who are up to performing that night.  Saturday 16th will be an extra dress rehearsal for ALL King kids plus a performance for all..
